Homemade Sweet & Sour Sauce

Purpose
Simple sweet & sauce sauce made from simple ingredients to replace general pantry sauces

Equipment

Ingredients

Liquids

  • 4 cups of water
  • 3⁄4 cup of white vinegar
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 156 ml can of tomato paste
  • 1 250 ml jar of apricot jam

Dry ingredients

  • 1⁄4 cup of cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon of dehydrated red bell pepper flakes
  • 1 1⁄2 teaspoons of onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon of ground ginger

Instructions

  1. Dump everything in a large cooking pot
  2. Whisk until mostly smooth before turning on the heat
  3. Heat on medium, whisking often, until sauce starts bubbling and thickens into a glossy sweet and sour sauce
  4. Simmer for 2-3 minutes, whisking often

Notes

Ingredients note: If making for a recipe that uses a can of pineapple tidbits preserved with real pineapple juice (like my Golden Sweet & Sour Fried Chicken Bowl), you can reserve the pineapple juice in it and top it up until it make 1 cup in total, instead of buyibg pineapple juice solely for this
