Chili Con Carne

Ingredients

Proteins

  • 1 kg ground beef (leaner = better)

Produce

  • 2 onions, diced
  • 8 garlic cloves, diced

Liquids

  • 1⁄3 cup vegetal oil
  • 1⁄2 cup molasses
  • 1⁄2 cup ketchup
  • 2 cans of 796 ml crushed tomatoes

Dry ingredients

  • 2 cans of 540 ml dark red beans
  • 3⁄4 cup chili powder
  • 4 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger

Sweeteners

  • 1⁄4 cup brown sugar, packed

Instructions

  1. Prepare separately: - Ketchup + molasses (bowl) - Brown sugar (measuring cup) - Spices (bowl) - Onion + garlic (diced on cutting board) - Beans (rinse them in strainer)
  2. On medium heat with a large cooking pot, soften onions and garlic in vegetal oil
  3. Add beef and cook until browned
  4. Mix spices in for 2 minutes
  5. Mix ketchup + molasses in for 2 minutes
  6. Mix tomatoes and beans in for 2 minutes
  7. Mix brown sugar in
  8. Lower heat and let simmer for 45–60 minutes

Notes

Cooking note: The longer everything simmers, the softer red beans will become and the more spices will taste.
