Maple Ham

Ingredients

- ~5 kg ham
Dairy
- 1⁄2 cup melted butter
Liquids
- 2 cans of 540 ml maple syrup
- 1 L apple juice
Dry ingredients
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Sweeteners
- 1⁄4 cup brown sugar, packed
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200°F
- Remove net on the ham if there is one; score the ham
- Place ham in roaster scored-side up
- Sprinkle brown sugar on top and spread evenly using the back side of a spoon in circular motions
- Flip ham scored-side down
- In a large mixing bowl, dissolve cornstarch completely into apple juice, mix in maple syrup and melted butter; pour over ham
- Cook ham for 5 hours (or until internal temperature of 135°F if using a thermometer), basting every 15–30 minutes
- Remove half of the sauce and put it into a pot; let boil until the ham is fully cooked to reduce it (approximately 1 hour)
- Flip ham scored-side up and cook uncovered for the last hour (or until internal temperature of 145°F if using a thermometer)

Serving note:
Serves very well with Mashed Potatoes.
Cooking note:
Can be made in a large-enough slow cooker, in which case 500 g can be cut from the ham to make Sweet Meatballs in the oven.
