Molasses Cake

- Large mixing bowl
- Medium mixing bowl
- Spatula
- Large glass baking dish (9" x 13")
Ingredients
Liquids
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup warm water
Dry ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C) and grease a medium-large baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs.
- Mix in molasses, vegetable oil and warm water using a spatula until well combined.
- In a medium mixing bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and cloves together.
- Add dry ingredients into the large bowl and stir until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Notes
Preparation note:
Make sure the warm water is bath-water warm; too hot could shock the eggs, while too cold will not soften the molasses as easily.
Serving note:
Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
